‘‘The post mortems are ongoing ... We have to wait for the results of those post mortems to determine what happened.’’
Police were called to the family's Glen Waverley home for a welfare check yesterday morning when Divya was not taken to family day care for the second day running.
Police entered the house and found the four bodies about 11am.
It was the second successive day Divya had failed to attend her day care centre. A cousin contacted by the centre was unable to rouse the family and alerted police.
The Age believes the children had been smothered.
It is uncertain how long they had been dead, but relatives said they attended a family celebration on Saturday night.
Mr Sharma's uncle Abhay Singh told The Age that he hoped their spirits would "rest in peace".
"He [Mr Sharma] would never do anything to harm his wife and kids, he loved them so much," Mr Singh said.
"We are absolutely shaken by what happened, the whole family has been destroyed. I could never believe that anything like this could happen. May their spirits rest in peace."
