Police return to riverfront burns apartment

Thu February 23, 2012 10:40am

POLICE are this morning returning to the scene where a woman was set alight in her apartment last week.

Detectives plan to speak to early morning walkers, who may have been in the area when Dana Vulin was set alight a week ago.

The 25-year-old underwent skin graft surgery yesterday after sustaining serious burns covering up to 60 per cent of her body.

Ms Vulin was found with extensive burns in the doorway of her riverfront apartment about 6am last Thursday.

Neighbour Denis Ericson put her in the shower, running cold water on her horrific injuries, which included burns to 60 per cent of her body.

He was leaving the gym in the apartment complex when he saw Ms Vulin open her front door and cry for help.

“I thought it was a kitchen fire, but she was badly burnt.  I put her in the shower and then I called the ambulance,” Mr Ericson said.

“She was in pain. She was conscious but she was in pain,  it wasn’t nice.”

A Royal Perth Hospital spokesperson last night said Ms Vulin remained in a critical condition after undergoing surgery.

Two women who live close to Ms Vulin and walk on the path behind the apartment block every morning said they noticed a person standing in the carpark.

“When we heard what happened we said to each other it was a bit strange," she said.

"We heard the little dog bark about 7.25 which I thought was strange too.

“I can’t stop thinking about her. It’s so said.

“You wouldn’t think it would happen here, it’s a luxury apartment.”

Police are still investigating several leads but no one has been charged over the attack.

A fund has been set up to help pay Ms Vulin's medical expenses.

Anyone wanting to donate can visit the Westpac bank or deposit into the Foundation for Dana Vulin account, BSB 036-000, account number 939549.
