A MAN has been charged after a woman's body was found inside a car parked in an uninhabited residential area in Cleveland on Friday night.
Metro South Detective Superintendent Mick Niland said a man checking on his unfinished house in Riley Peter Place saw the car and a male near the vehicle just before 9pm.
"A scuffle ensued and a male person ran away," he said.
The man then phoned police who saw the woman in the back of the vehicle.
The dog squad were also called in.
"Police were unable to raise that person (in the car), they've broken the window and they've discovered a deceased female person," Det Supt Niland said.
On Saturday afternoon, a 45-year-old Thornlands man was charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and interfering with a corpse.
He is due to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court on Monday.
