Teen in fight for his life

A TEEN is fighting for his life with severe head injuries after he was allegedly "king-hit from behind" in an unprovoked Darwin city attack.

Jesse French, 18, was last night still in intensive care with a fractured skull and swollen brain at Royal Darwin Hospital after a night out with mates turned violent.Anyone with information is urged to phone Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Friends said it was a random act of violence."There was no lippy," Ben Dixon said. "The kid didn't even see it coming. He was walking back to his (hotel) room and got king-hit from behind."(Jesse) has never hurt anyone."A 28-year-old man was last night charged for aggravated assault following the attack near Shennanigans bar, on Mitchell Street about, 2.30am. He will remain in custody until he faces Darwin Magistrates Court on Wednesday.REAL HEROES WALK AWAY Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Board said details were still sketchy until more witnesses were interviewed and hours worth of CCTV footage had been viewed."At this stage we are unable to speak to the hospital and ascertain the exact extent of his injuries," he said."But we are treating those injuries very seriously and serious harm aggravations could apply in this instance."The victim underwent emergency surgery but was last night still in a serious and critical condition.Friend Billy Baker said he was "not in the best of shape". "But (his family) heard he'll be fine, which is a relief for me and his friends," he said.Guys, it's your job to stop the king-hit Police were appealing for witnesses to come forward."At the very least for the assistance of the victim and his family," Sen Sgt Board said.
