IT'S a happy day for animal lovers and Royal followers alike - Kate has finally let slip the name of her new adorable cocker spaniel puppy - Lupo.
The Duchess of Cambridge revealed the name of her three-month-old puppy that was a 30th birthday gift from Prince William while visiting primary school children in Oxford.
The solo royal was on one of her increasingly frequent charity visits in support of The Art Room - one of the charities she has recently become patron of - when the doggy disclosure came about.
Students at the Rose Hill Primary School were enjoying a watercolour lesson with the Duchess when she was handed a soft toy puppy by a little boy.
"Why don't we call it after my dog," Kate suggested, "He's called Lupo."
"They liked the name. They like the play on the word for wolf," a royal source told People magazine.
The name is Italian for 'wolf'.
"The duchess said she wanted to name it [the toy] after her dog at home... I think it was called Lupin or something, Rose Hill Primary School teacher, Lisa Hancock told The Daily Mail.
Ms Hancock, also the manager of the school's art room, said the children had picked out a toy dog for Prince William's other half before she arrived.
"She seemed to have as much fun as the children," Hancock said.
"She had all the right language and was very calm and gentle."
The Art Room charity works with children, many of whom are disengaged from mainstream education, disruptive or withdrawn, to help increase confidence, independence and self-esteem.
