FROM working at a sex shop to having a song reach No. 2 on the Australian singles chart, Karise Eden has certainly come a long way.
Insider can reveal the The Voice contestant's last job was working at adult shop Secretz, in Wyoming on the NSW Central Coast.
"Beggars can't be choosers, you know," the 19-year-old told us ahead of tomorrow's grand final. "I put my resume out to like hundreds of places and that was the one that picked me and I got an interview and then I got the job."
Eden has also revealed she used to self-harm.
The teenager told the Sun-Herald she started self-harming when she was 11 years old.
''I won't go into the actual reasons why. I guess I was just stuck in a place in my life when I thought there was nothing else. I was nothing, I felt nothing.''
The singer left home at the age of 13 and spent the next three years in 20 different refugee centres.
The singer said she stopped harming herself when she was 15 or 16 and now calls the marks on her arms her "tribal scars".
Eden is the favourite to win The Voice, with sportsbet.com.au odds of $1.57 ahead of Sarah De Bono ($3.50), Darren Percival ($6.50) and Rachael Leahcar at ($16).
Her version of Hallelujah, which she performed last Monday night, has also hit No.2 on the ARIA charts.
Eden, who has been mentored by Seal, hasn't had the easiest upbringing, living in more than 20 women's refuges as a younger teenager.
She now lives in Woy Woy with her best friend's mum and says trust is a huge issue.
Although reluctant at first to compete on The Voice, Eden's friends pressured her into auditioning despite never having a singing lesson before the show.
"Now I have found the job I really want," she said.
