A MAN who allegedly confronted police armed with a knife and a spear will appear in a far north Queensland court today.
The 18-year-old was charged with nine offences including attempted arson, unlawful possession of a knife and serious assault of police following a siege at Mareeba yesterday.
Police say they were called to a unit around 6.35am (AEST) where the man, allegedly armed with a knife, was attempting to set the unit on fire.
Officers tried to negotiate with the man, who was alone in the unit and wouldn't come out.
He allegedly emerged armed with a knife and a spear and threatened officers.
He was arrested and taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries caused when he was inside the unit, police say.
He was due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court today.
