Security Suite - Getting Started

Optus Internet Security Suite is available to all Optus Broadband Customers FREE* until March 31 2009. You are able to download and install the Security Suite up to three times on different computers.

Before downloading Optus Internet Security Suite you need to ensure you have the system requirements for the software.

These are:

Minimum: Windows 2000 and Windows XP

Processor: Intel Pentium III 600MHz or higher
Memory: 256MB RAM
Disk space: 600MB free HD space
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4 or Microsoft Windows XP SP2
Browser: Internet Explorer 5.0 or newer.

Recommended: Windows 2000 and Windows XP

Processor: Intel Pentium III 1GHz or higher
Memory: 512MB or more
Disk space: 800MB free HD space
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4 or Microsoft Windows XP SP2
Browser: Internet Explorer 6.0 or newer is required.

Minimum: Vista

Processor: Capable of running Microsoft Vista 32bit
Memory: 512MB
Disk space: 600MB free HD space
Browser: Internet Explorer 7.0 or newer.

Recommended: Vista

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 2GHz or higher
Memory: 1 GB or more
Disk space: 800MB free HD space
Browser: Internet Explorer 7.0 or newer is required.


Note: Optus Internet Security Suite is presently not compatible with the Macintosh, or Linux operating systems.

Preparing for installation

Before installing Optus Internet Security Suite software you will need to:

Completing the installation

Installing the software is easy. The Installation Wizard guides you through the process. Installation time will vary depending on the speed of your computer. Before you begin, make sure that your computer is connected to the internet.

  1. Please ensure that any other Antivirus or Firewall software on your computer needs uninstalled before installing Security Suite. This is to prevent Security Suite from conflicting with other Antivirus or Firewall software during installation.
    Note: To remove other Antivirus or Firewall software go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs (Windows XP/2000) or Control Panel-> Programs and Features(Vista). Look for the Antivirus or Firewall software and click the "Remove" button next to it (XP) or select Uninstall/Change (Vista). Reboot your computer before installing Security Suite.
  2. Double click the OISS_2008_Installer_V1.0.EXE that you've downloaded to run the Installation Wizard.
  3. At the 'Choose your installation language' screen English is the highlighted option. Click 'Next'.
  4. Security Suite will begin installing, this may take a few minutes.
  5. Accept the F-Secure license terms for the software by selecting - 'I accept the agreement' and click the 'Next' button.
  6. Enter the subscription number that you were issued in Member Services. The number follows the format XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. Please enter exactly as shown. You can cut and paste the subscription number from the Security Suite page.
  7. You will be asked to choose the installation directory. We recommend you use the directory suggested by the Wizard. Click Next to continue.
    Note: If other firewall software is detected on your computer at this stage, the Wizard will try to remove them since they can interfere with the function of Optus Internet Security Suite.
  8. When the Installation Wizard has finished installing, you still need to finalise the installation by restarting your computer. Select Restart Now and then click OK. If you select Restart Later, installation will not be complete until the computer has rebooted.
  9. When your computer has rebooted, you will see the Start-up Wizard. The Start-up Wizard will automatically connect to F-Secure servers to validate your subscription number and check for new updates. The Start-up Wizard will then help you optimize your Optus Internet Security Suite settings through a series of quick steps.

A $7 monthly fee may apply should you wish to continue the subscription from 1 April 2009. Security software utilises customers' data allowances for installation and updates. Software requires existing security packages to be uninstalled. Must meet PC-Compatible system requirements. Available to Optus Wireless Broadband Customers on selected plans only.
