Casual Usage: Windows 98 & ME

Please note: These setting are only recommended for Optus Broadband Internet customers who connect to Optus Broadband Internet and Optus Dial-up Internet from the same computer. These settings will stop windows from displaying the Dial Up Connection window when opening web applications such as Internet Explorer.

  • Double click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
  • Double click the Control Panel icon.
  • Double click the Internet Options icon.
  • Click the Connections tab.
  • Place a dot next to Never Dial A Connection.
  • Click the Apply button located at the bottom of the window.
  • Click OK to save the settings.

Optus Internet DUN Short Cut

  • Double click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
  • Double click the Dial-Up Networking icon.
  • Right click the Optus Dial-up Internet Connection icon.
  • Click Create Shortcut.
  • A Windows Message will appear. Click Yes.
  • Close all windows and return to the desktop. An Optus Dial-up Internet Shortcut should now be visible as a desktop icon.

Connecting To Optus Internet

With the above settings the computer will use the Optus Broadband Internet connection by default each time the computer is switched on. However, should the computer not have access to the Optus Broadband Internet service for reasons such as roaming, the following steps are required for the computer to connect to Optus Dial-up Internet.

  • Double click on the Optus Dial-up Internet Shortcut on the desktop.
  • Ensure that the correct Username and Password is entered.
  • Click Connect.
