Optus Supplied Modems
The Optus DSL Broadband Installation CD installs and configures all the software you need to connect to your Optus DSL Broadband service. If you think your settings have been altered we recommend that you re-run the installation CD.

Optus Preferred Modems
As well as the Optus supplied modem there is also a set of popular modems that have been tested on the Optus DSL Broadband service. Customers using an Optus preferred modem are able to use the self-installation CD to update and configure their browser and email software for the Optus DSL Broadband service. The CD also has a step by step guide to installing and configuring your modem for use on the Optus DSL Broadband service. To see the modem and PC settings needed to connect an Optus preferred BYO modem to the Optus DSL Broadband service, select your operating system type from the following list then select your modem type:
- Optus Preferred Modem configuration for Windows 98 & Windows ME
- Optus Preferred Modem configuration for Windows 2000
- Optus Preferred Modem configuration for Windows XP
- Optus Preferred Modem configuration for Windows Vista

Other DSL Modems
You may also be able to access the Optus DSL Broadband service using a modem not on the Optus preferred modem list.However, please note that all modems must be Optus DSL Broadband Network-Approved.
To verify that your modem is Optus DSL Broadband Network-Approved, please:
- read our sales materials, or
- check the full list of Optus Network approved modems or
- call Optus on 1300 309 333 and have your modem brand and model ready.
For Network-Approved Modem users, Optus DSL Broadband Customer Support is limited to assistance with your account, online services (such as email) and your DSL/telephone line.
Email Configuration
Email is the most popular Internet application and it is important to use your primary Optus email account as information such as changes to the service, announcements and newsletters are all sent to your Optus DSL Broadband email account. Setting up your computer to access email services is simple.

Internet Explorer Configuration

Plug-ins
Web pages are designed using many tools. To be able to view the content created using these tools, you need to have the corresponding "plug-in", or interpreter, installed on your computer. If you don't have the appropriate plug-in installed, it's likely you will see a blank space, or the page will fail to load. Often a message will prompt you to download the required Plug-in. Optus DSL Broadband has provided a page with links to the most common Plug-ins.

Casual Usage Dial-up Connection Settings
When the same computer is used to connect to both Optus Dial Up and Optus DSL Broadband, it is recommended that the computer always be set to Never Dial A Connection. That way the computer will always use the Optus DSL Broadband connection by default. Should the computer be away from the Optus DSL Broadband connection then you should manually connect to Optus Dial Up via the Optus Internet shortcut on the desktop. Choose your Operating System to see instructions on how to configure these settings:
